Heat pump plant for producing district heating

A heat recovery plant utilizes waste heat from the Yandex data center and recycles the heat to the district heating network. The heat is recovered from the cooling air of the data room in the exhaust channels. The heat is then upgraded up to 80°C which is suitable for district heating. The total power of the heat pump plant is about 6 MW and it produces 25 GWh of district heating per year, which is about 75% of the district heating of Mäntsälä city center. The plant reduces the CO2 emissions of the city center heating by 40% and is the first of its kind in the world.

The project has won the Climate Act of the Year award in 2016 and the European Heat Pump City of the Year award in 2015!
